Summary, etc. In dit hoofdstuk wordt verkend hoe sociale zekerheid in een postindustriële samenleving er uit zou kunnen zien. Eerst worden de economische en maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen die gepaard gaan met postindustrialisering in kaart gebracht. Vervolgens wordt onderzocht welke problemen het bestaande stelsel van sociale zekerheid ondervindt in de open diensten- en kenniseconomie die is ontstaan. Er worden na deze verkenning een tiental uitgangspunten geformuleerd voor de vormgeving van sociale zekerheid. Centraal hierin staan gedeelde verantwoordelijkheden, risicodeling en een zekere maatschappelijke solidariteit. Tot slot wordt bij wijze van gedachte-experiment verkend wat de tien uitgangspunten betekenen voor de vormgeving van regelingen voor werkloosheid en arbeidsongeschiktheid in een open samenleving.
