| Summary, etc. | In un tempo, il nostro, in cui la storiografia preferisce misurarsi con la stregoneria come fenomeno giudiziario, o con gli uomini che condussero in prima persona la persecuzione, o con i trattati demonologici che molto influenzarono i cacciatori di streghe, questo libro mette al centro i soggetti che ne furono vittime. Le donne accusate di stregoneria sono le protagoniste dei processi istruiti fra tardo Medioevo e prima età moderna: fu quello il tempo in cui si scatenò in Europa la grande caccia alle streghe. I profili delle presunte streghe, pur disegnati dai loro giudici, emergono da queste pagine in tutta la loro mutevolezza e drammaticità: donne reticenti a dichiararsi colpevoli di crimini non commessi, segnate dal silenzio ostinato, arrese alla piena confessione di ogni nefandezza estorta con la tortura. |
